This Saturday’s Delo national newspaper featured an article about our company. We talked with the journalists about e-learning, development of e-textbooks for Slovenian schools and our most recent project enological wine school Slovenian Wine, a mobile application for iPhone.

In early December, the magic number of registered users in our online classroom eGradiva.si has exceeded 20,000. While we had to wait 24 months to get to the first 10,000 users , it took us only 13 months for the next 10,000 new users!

Increased activity in the online classroom is clearly visible in the graph below, showing a comparison of daily use in the first three months of last year and this school year.

Most users come to the site using the Google search engine (66%), 23% via the links (mostly SIO and MoE), and through direct access to 9% of users.

In an analysis, we found that most of our users use Firefox browser (blue, 465%) and Explorer (green, 29%), followed by Chrome (red, 22%) and Safari (yellow, 2%).

At Ministry of Education of Republic of Slovenia (MoE) a press conference was held on 25.11.2011 together with the official presentation of the first e-textbooks in Slovenia. All of the three e-textbooks for Engineering and Technology (TIT) were produced by our authoring tools Frames.
E-textbooks presented by the Minister of Education dr. Igor Lukšič, director of the ZRSŠ mag. Gregor Mohorčič, Secretary mag. Borut Čampelj and author of e-textbooks Petra Dermota together with students from elementary school Bled.

E-textbooks are free for Slovenian students and teachers.

The news draw big interest of the national mainstream media: RTV SLO (15:17 min), INFO TV, PopTV, Dnevnik.

Commission for textbooks by Expert Council for General Education of Republic of Slovenia has officialy approved e-textbooks for Engineering and technology for elementary school.
The above mentioned e-textbooks have thus become the first officially approved e-textbooks in Slovenia.

Watch us in today’s TV show Firma.tv which airs at 18.30 hours on national television SLO2. Our CEO Žiga Fon will talk on the development of education in the future, briefly outline our main school project eGradiva.si and will together with guests Ana Ivandič from Formitas BBDO and mag. Velko Glanerjem from JAPTI’s evaluate business ideas of young people from primary and secondary schools, who have signed up to contest.

A representative of DigiEd is again a member of this year’s international jury of MEDEA Awards for e-learning projects, which is carried out each year in the Online Educa conference in Berlin.

The MEDEA Awards competition is all about recognising, encouraging and rewarding excellence and creativity in media in education. MEDEA aims to highlight the educational environments that reflect the media-rich world in which our learners live nowadays.

SejfkoFor Faculty of Social Sciences, who is Slovenian coordinator of project Safer Internet Safe.si, DigiEd developed online teaching materials for educating children called Safety on the Net. Through interactive games children learn about perils of Internet and how to surf the net safely. The target group is children up to age 9.

Try it out yourself or with your little ones and see how familiar are they with Internet and how successfully can they solve the tasks.

The German Institute of Pedagogy and Informatics awarded Medal of Excellence to the Slovenian e-textbook for hairdressers

In Berlin, the final declaration of Comenius EduMedia international prizes took place. Prizes are awarded annually by the German Institute of Pedagogy and Informatics ( Gesellschaft fur Information und Pedagogy EV ).. Company DigiEd with partners Videofon and Faculty of Electrical Engineering, received the Medal of excellence for e-learning textbook Hairdressing, which has been produced by a software tool Frames for making e-textbooks, developed by the company.

German Institute first presented recognitions for outstanding achievements in e-learning and then among those, on the basis of presentation and evaluation of nominated e-materials by academic jury, awarded the selected with Medal of exellence in e-learning in Europe in 2011. Medal placed us  alongside the major international companies such as publisher Pearson, FWU, Smart, Nintendo Europe, etc.., who also received a medal.

Ljubljana university incubator (LUI) is celebrating its third year anniversary. Among other things, they celebrated with a short ceremony at which awards were granted to the most successful members. Along with our successful colleagues (Visionect, Uniki, Genelitik, SoSed, OBS, Beyond Semiconductor, Elaphe, Red Orbit, Blubit) we received recognition and an award for an innovative, successful and daring undertaking, presented by dr. Lidija Honzak, rector of the University of Ljubljana prof. dr. Radovan Stanislav Pejovnik and mayor of city Ljubljana Zoran Jankovič. Great news today! We were informed that the e-materials Hairdressing: Basic chapters and cutting and Cell & genetics are shortlisted for the medal round of the Comenius Edumedia International Awards of Excellence in e-learning, which are awarded each year by the German Institute of Pedagogy and Informatics - Gesellschaft für Pädagogik und Information (GPI).

In the past, we received recognition of excellence for e-materials Geography and E-guide to film language. The latter also received a medal Comenius EduMedia for best e-learning material in Europe in 2008. This is currently the only such medal in Slovenia. We hope that in 24th July, when the declaration ceremony is held in Berlin, another one will join it. :)
